The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) was established by the Government of India under the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority Act passed by the Parliament in December, 1985. The Act (2 of 1986) came into effect from 13th February, 1986 by a notification issued in the Gazette of India: Extraordinary: Part-II [Sec. 3(ii): 13.2.1986). The Authority replaced the Processed Food Export Promotion Council (PFEPC).
In accordance with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority Act, 1985, (2 of 1986) the following functions have been assigned to the Authority.
APEDA is mandated with the responsibility of export promotion and development of the following scheduled products:
Registering with APEDA allows for the growth and development of export infrastructure and market development activities. While exporters can take advantage of APEDA subsidies on various scheduled products.
Documents required to register on Apeda are copies of your import-export code, bank details, certification from relevant authorities and an MOA or partnership deed, if applicable for a company.

Registration can be done online via the APEDA website by signing in and clicking "Register as Member", entering all of your information (IE code, Email ID and Mobile number) before clicking submit, and an OTP will be sent directly to both emails/mobile numbers for verification of details submitted. Once verified, you can then upload all relevant documents for uploading purposes.
Once your application is accepted by APEDA authorities, an RCMC membership certificate will be sent out. This document is valid for five years. And must be renewed yearly following the same procedure. To renew, repeat steps 3 through 6.
As a member of RCMC, you will be eligible to apply for APEDA subsidy schemes and participate in training programs designed to enhance your business structure and skills. Furthermore, APEDA's database can assist your marketing and promotion activities.
APEDA's Registered Exporter Compliance Monitor Certificate (RCMC) is essential for any Scheduled Products exporter. It gives access to valuable information and guides you through business registration. And assists in the brand promotion/enhancement in the market. It allows financial assistance schemes such as grants/loans etc. And can even be cancelled should exports cease for 12 months or any violations of APEDA occur.
An APEDA registration and certificate are essential for food businesses expanding into overseas markets.
